O’s Notes: Virtual Birdland is a wonderful example of brilliance arising from a crisis. In this case the pandemic could not quell the camaraderie of hundreds of musicians who connected globally from their domestic spaces without the fuel from an audience, or salaries, but with a desire to heal the pain we all felt. They came together under pianist and composer Arturo O’Farrill’s direction with remarkable results. This is an adventurous set highlighted by “Nightfall”, “Ana Mashoof”, “ParaLos Rumberos” and “Desert”. Yes, there is hope!
