O’s Notes: Bassist Avery Sharpe has a strong sense of culture and“400: An African American Musical Portrait“continues his musical journey. He surrounds himself with a wealth of strong musicians including Don Braden (sax, fl), Kevin Eubanks (g), Duane Eubanks (t, flugelhorn) and the Extended Family Choir. This is Sharpe’s commemoration of 400 years from 1619 to 2019. He dedicates 2-3 songs to each century with music and lyrics depicting the pain, survival, evolution and joy that parallels the journey of enslaved Africans and their evolution to African Americans.
