O’s Notes: Tenor sax man Jerry Bergonzi teams up with John Abercrombie (g), Dave Santoro (b) and Adam Nussbaum (d). They are playing both old and new Bergonzi originals with a couple of standards. It all comes together with a different, somewhat darker tone than his last outing. It has more fusion character than bop but will play well to both audiences. The blending with Abercrombie works well. Listen to “Simultaneous Looks”, the ballad “La Mesha” and the syncopated beats of “Czarology” to the capture their groove at its best. It is a different turn but with good results.
