O’s Notes: L marries the sounds of Vietnam with western jazz-fusion resulting in a worldly mix. “Byzance” has many funky riffs contrasted with the mysterious groove of “Mali Iwa” courtesy of the muted trumpet. The groove is funky Bohemian with a mild dose of electronics. It reminded us of the music in an Asian spa. The band is a trio with Paulo Fresu (t, electronic), Dhafer Youssef (oud, vocals, perc) and leader L (strung instruments, synthesizers, electronics). Homescape is different with several songs that are not objectionable. It is worth a listen.
