O’s Notes: Simak Dialog is an Indonesian fusion band led by composer, Pianist Riza Arshad. This debut recording is from a live concert in Jakarta during April 2005. Patahan means protecting and maintaining a natural balance and order. Simak Dialog sticks to that formula with their music. It is very peaceful and not aggressive. The absence of a drummer – they use two percussionists – helps soften the beats. Each of the five songs is well developed and exceeds eleven minutes. “Worthseeing” is a great example. It starts with a rock fusion vibe before a piano & percussion interchange shifts the direction towards a more relaxing mood – all in one tune! We enjoyed the vocalese from Nyak Ina Raseuki on “Spur Of The Moment”.
