O’s Notes: Free jazz saxophonist Ivo Perelman pairs with drummer Whit Dickey for his latest endeavor into spontaneity. Perelman is truly a believer of “in the moment” performances. Aside from tuning up, there is no warm-up, rehearsal or even preliminary conversation with accompanying musicians about the music to be played. The music evolves in an edgy jam session. Tenorhood pays homage to legendary jazz saxophonists Hank Mobley, Ben Webster, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Albert Ayler with songs dedicated to each. The theme puts things into perspective but the songs were named after the fact! Nevertheless we found this to be a solid effort with strong performances by both musicians and excellent interaction especially on the title track.
