O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist Paul Jones assembles multiple configurations for his sophomore release. He started the project while attending the Banff Creative Arts Center in Alberta, Canada. He was surrounded by classical musicians who led him to incorporate a woodwind octet into the mix. He finished the project in New York with more traditional modern jazz musicians including drummer Jimmy McBride and alto saxophonist Alex LoRe. The sounds are well integrated in all cases especially on “The Generator”. Jones’s originals are translations of his life experiences and they offer a range of emotions that leads to a good listening session.
