O’s Notes: We last reviewed Pearring Sound as an adventurous trio led by alto saxophonist and producer Jeff Pearring. The current release, Socially Distanced Duos makes the best of the pandemic. Pearling plays a series of duos, each recorded at Scholes Street Studio in Brooklyn. There are two songs each with Billy Martin (d) and Cameron Brown (b). We enjoyed “Shapeshifter” with Claire de Brunner (bassoon), “A Continuous Conversation Renewed” with Ken Filiano (b), and “Solar” with Martin. The improvisations reflect the inner emotions of the musicians during these uncertain times.
