O’s Notes: One of the key characteristics for a strong large ensemble is their ability to play both dynamic, upbeat selections as well as warm ballads. Tenor saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown leads the charge with The Global Big Band executing to perfection. Examples are the warm tones of “Spain” with a fine trumpet solo by Randy Brecker, “Airegin” with Miguel Zenon (a-sax), and the harmonized horns on “Night In Tunisia” both featuring cool sax solos from Lefkowitz-Brown. Soft vocals from Andrea Motis on “Waters of March” and Bria Skonberg on “La Vie En Rose” balance the attack. All of the arrangements are fresh making Open World is a winner.
