O’s Notes: Canadian pianist Jean-Michel Pilc leads a trio with Rémi-Jean LeBlanc (b) and Jim Doxas (d). Alive is a live session recorded at Diese Onze, Montréal. There are rather creative, dynamic, piano improvisations on classic songs like “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise”, “Nardis”, “All Blues”, and “Eleanor Rigby”. They start with the improvisation and then fade into the more popular drift of the piece. We like that approach, it’s unique and appreciated.
