O’s Notes: Joy Lapps is a first generation Canadian of Caribbean descent. She fell in love with the steel pans and learned to play them as a child. She’s a pioneer of sorts as a woman steel drummer and plays with finesse and dynamics that place her near the top of her field. Joy composed all of the music on Girl In The Yard and presents a balanced musical approach. This is a fine taste of festive, contemporary jazz music.
