O’s Notes: German saxophonist, composer Ingrid Laubrock leads a sextet with Mazz Swift (violin), Tomeka Reid (cello), Brandon Seabrook (g), Michael Formanek (b) and Tom Rainey (d). The music is combination of free fusion with a rather melancholic and adventurous theme. The darkness is a nod towards the title, The Last Quiet Place. “Grammy Season”, “Chant II” and “Delusions” are more edgy, music that sounds right at home as the backdrop in an action-oriented video game! The small poster of the cover art included in the package is a nice touch.
