O’s Notes: Alex Hitchcock is a UK-based saxophonist and composer who assembled his Dream Band(s) for Live In London at the Vortex Club. There are three distinct concerts with three different lineups performing Hitchcock’s compositions. This is mellow jazz-fusion with rich brass harmonies, as on “Oblique” including a fine piano solo by Kit Downes. The live audience mirrored our enthusiasm! Vocalist Liselotte Östblom provides shadowing on “Verglas” and “Grace Pt.2” that softens the edges nicely. Hitchcock leads the charge on “Cakeism”, “Momentum” and punctuates “North End” with a warm solo intro. We also enjoyed “Cat Circles” with strong bass from Conor Chaplin.
