O’s Notes: Swiss composer, guitarist and bandleader Silvan Joray is cooking on Updraft, his latest jazz fusion encounter. Bassist Nadav Erlich and drummer Jeff Ballard support him over eleven engaging mostly original songs. There are rich solos all the way around on the title track. They sprinkle in a couple of warm ballads notably “Very Sweet Stuff, But Nice!” However, we enjoyed the burn on “Kokodrillo” and “The Liar”, well-suited for Joray.
