O’s Notes: Negative Press Project is an Oakland based band billed as a jazz/indie-art rock/post-bop–inspired original music collective. We call it progressive, contemporary jazz. They ease you into their groove on the opener “Victorious”, shifting to a bit of progressive rock on “Chant” before we hear the subtle reggae beats of “Squares” and “Hexagons”, both written by guitarist Luis Salcedo. Bassist Andrew Lion steps up with a fine solo on “Table For Three” one of the two songs he composed on The Victorious Sessions. Pianist Ruthie Dineen wrote the other three compositions to present a wide array of sounds.
