O’s Notes: Pianist Noah Haidu is based in New York where you can hear him performing across the city. Standards II is his latest recording, in a trio with drummer Billy Hart and Buster Williams on bass. This talented team makes classic arrangements sound like much more than regurgitated memories. Buster and Billy have been playing together for over fifty years and are a well-oiled machine with Haidu fitting right in. The tunes are mostly ballads. The solos are fresh from the heart and inviting, without disregarding the original recording melodies. “Obsession”, “Days Of wine and Roses”, and “I Got It Bad” stand out. Haidu continues to compose his own music, but the success of his Standards Trio suggests that we’ll hear more volumes, and live performances!
