O’s Notes: Jim pairs his guitar with five different bassists in duo and trio formats. The men on the lower registers, Haden, McBride, Holland, Colley and Mraz, are well-established but with different styles. This gives each tune a different feel. The music is a combination of originals, free jazz and a few standards. Things heat up towards the middle of the set with “Sam Jones”, “Dog Walk” and “Dream Steps” to strengthen the program.
