O’s Notes: This is a formidable lineup with Joe Lovano (ts), Gonzalo Rubalcaba (p), Christian McBride (b), Lewis Nash (d) and leader, guitarist Pat Martino. All are well-established musicians with no hidden agendas. They play with confidence and allow the music to flow as opposed to overwhelming the music with dazzling techniques. The music is heavily syncopated with Joe and Pat sharing the lead lines on “Think Tank” and then alternating leads on the funky “Dozen Down”. They continue this way through eight songs, half of them new compositions written by Martino.
