O’s Notes: The quartet is an unusual combination of guitar (Minasi), Tomas Ulrich (cello), John Filiano (b) and John Bollinger (d), all accomplished musicians. The musical program includes Shorter’s “Witch Hunt” and “Round Midnight” featuring Carol Mennie singing. These two songs surround six originals written by Dom over the last 30 years. Coltrane, Dizzy and Eric Dolphy inspire some but Minasi fully states his case with his own signature. It is not just another standards CD. This is an adventurous session that works nicely.
