O’s Notes: Sammy’s band, The Latin Jazz Explosion has lots of afro-centric rhythms led by his excellent work as a percussionist. “Bebe” is a very mellow song that has an extraordinary sense of swing. It typifies what we hear throughout the session regardless of pace. Listen to “Eugenology” for a heavy dose of crisp brass accents and Sammy’s ever present accents. The music is moving with an energetic team that comes across as a strong unit, a high-octane blend of talents.
