O’s Notes: Bassist Jim De Julio splits the program with standards and originals played by two different groupings of musicians. Among his partners are Joe Labarbera (d), Pete Christlieb (Sax), and Eddie Daniels (cl). The music really swings starting with the Brazilian vibe of “Samba d’Marianne”. Jim plays “How High The Moon” taking the lead line in full control before a spirited walk on “Life Style”. He pulls out the bow for “Amazing Grace” and trades with Daniels on “Scrapple From The Apple”. We really liked “I Thought About You” with the bass and trumpet interplay. De Julio shows versatility, depth and style across the session working his bass from every angle and holding the band together.
