O’s Notes: Mark’s groove on vibes is solid. He plays strong allegiance to jazz while imparting a contemporary flair. His scatting on “Um a Zero” and the highly rhythmic Afro-Cuban beats throughout the session keep the energy level high. The rest of the band is equally competent with Bill Brennan (keys), Rick Lazar (percussion), Richard Brown (b), Alan Hetherington (d) and Kenny Kirkwood (sax). There’s a hint of Spyro Gyra on “Network”, a good favorable comparison for Vuja De. We’ll stay tuned for more from this crew!
