O’s Notes: Pianist Geri Allen celebrates jazz as a vehicle to express her quest for peace and harmony so badly needed today. She chooses a wealth of fine musicians and composers to join her. Ron Carter (b) wrote “Nearly” and delivers a strong performance here and throughout. Wallace Roney (t) and Allen composed “In Real Time”, a piece that has a cool swagger. Veteran drummer Jimmy Cobb takes the spotlight on “Ah-Leu-Cha”. And singers Carmen Lundy, George Shirley and the Atlanta Jazz Chorus make their presence known on the vocal tracks. There are 14 songs plus a bonus disc with a spirited version of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.
