O’s Notes: Many people ask me if there is any new jazz being created or just a rehash of the classics. I am happy to report that there is a wealth of new material and one of the new young leaders is pianist Jason Lindner who established his big band back in 1995. Since then it has morphed with different configurations taking on characteristics of its members, a wide cross section of members. Among them are Duane Eubanks (t), Miguel Zenon (a sax), Omer Avital (b), Avishai Cohen (t), and Jay Collins (t/s sax, fl). They have a wide variety of styles which Lindner has extracted as the band has evolved. They have a lot to say and it is worth a listen. They open up with “Intro: Song For Jason” with lots of layering and cool undertones. This sets the stage for the two-disc set which celebrates their history and new jazz history real time! Take notes and enjoy it.
