O’s Notes: This is the sophomore recording for Berklee grad, Gilad Barkan. He plays with two different bands in a well-recorded live radio session (WGBH in Boston). Gilad wrote all of the music except “Maya’s Blues”. The trio on disc 1 is Barkan (p), Dan Greenspan (b) and Harvey Wirht (d). Amir Milstein (fl) and John Lockwood (b) join Wirht and Barkan for the quartet on the second CD. There is a lot of chemistry between the musicians and there are several sparks especially “Not A Samba”, “Modulation” and swinging “Mr. Amedo”. Gilad is a talented pianist with a bright future.
