O’s Notes: Dennis has a buttery smooth voice and clear articulation that makes his performance easy to enjoy. He employs a strong band including Melvin Sparks (g), John DiMartino (p), Stefan Harris (vibes) and Wycliff Gordon (tb). The program consists of twelve popular standards. Day is able to put his own slant on the material from the blues of “Hallielujah I Love Her So!” to the jazzy “Caravan”. He also sings a little samba with “Desifinado” and some show tunes like “The Trolley Song”. But Dennis really shines on the blues tunes especially “Blues Medley”.
