O’s Notes: The man behind Altered Natives is Derrick Graves, producer, composer and featured artist. Graves plays bass, keyboards and does all programming. He extracts a lot of syncopated funk out of the electronic wizardry on “Spanish Rice” and it is here that we get the first exposure to his exceptional talent playing the bass. As predicted there is a rock influence on “Piece of the Rock” and more strong bass on the finale “Bass Metaphor” leaving us confident that we’ll be hearing more from Derrick.
