O’s Notes: This 2007 release features Fujii (p) with her Japanese quartet. Some of the songs have quite a bit more structure than her typical free jazz works but we’d still classify this CD as free fusion. Hayakawa Takeharu adds funky bass work on “Sunset In Savannah” and “In The Town You Don’t See On The Map” making them among the best of the lot. “Natsu Mae” is a very dynamic piece allowing Yoshida Tatsuya to explode on drums. But it is Tamura Natsuki’s work on trumpet that makes this Fujii configuration distinct. Satoko’s compositions here are complex and allow heavy doses of creative improvisation.
