O’s Notes: Flutist Jamie Baum composed, produced and arranged all of the music for“Bridges. Her septet includes Sam Sadigursky (sax, b cl), John Escreet (p), Jeff Hirshfield (d) and guest percussionist Jamey Haddad on four selections. The music has a worldly view with some exotic features. Amir Elsaffar adds voice giving depth and soul to “Song Without Words”. “Honoring Nepal: The Shiva Suite” is a peaceful 3-part suite. Guitarist Brad Shepik transitions the band to a rock-fusion groove on “Joyful Lament” and Navin Chettri gives “Mantra a decided Eastern bent with prominent voice and percussion. They wrap up with “U Cross Me” featuring Baum leaving us unable to classify this singularly yet we were satisfied on several front and enlightened as well.
