O’s Notes: Guitarist, arranger Fareed Haque leads a fine band playing the music of Haitian American, guitarist, composer Frantz Casseus! Haque’s core quintet includes Kevin Kozol (p), Alex Austin (b), Jose María Piedra (perc), and Greg Fundis (d). Paul Cotton (perc, djembe), Juan Paston (canon), and Richard Christian (tabla) join him on “Estamos Aqui”. The music has mild Caribbean flavors that are easily embraceable. There are ten selections with several standouts including “Simbi”, “Congo”, “Dance of The Hounsies”, and “Columbine”.
