O’s Notes: CODA(s) is the third collaboration of No Fast Food, an improvisational trio featuring drummer, composer and bandleader Phil Haynes with bassist Drew Gress and saxophonist David Liebman. They again create two discs of eerie, tribal music, in tune with nature, and drawing listeners into their performance, challenging them to engage. It is an adventure in tranquil, improvisational extraction. Our favorites are “A Lil’ Iowa Get Down” and the finale, “Things Lee” featuring Grass. Haynes and Liebman have a 50-year history while Gress and Haynes have performed for 35 years. This experience in not lost in their seamless interactions.
