O’s Notes: Alan Harris (vocals) and Takana Miyamoto (p) are well-regarded musicians coming from different jazz circles. They record Convergence as a duo recreating the famous Bill Evans/Tony Bennett collaborations from 1975 and 1977. That is a risky endeavor as such covers are subject to a great deal of scrutiny. When played alongside of the original, they create new ideas but in a different light than we have come to expect from either Allan or Takana. It is a good reason to dust off the original and appreciate the contrast.
