O’s Notes: Guitarist, composer Kingsley Durant started his musical career playing jazzy rock and jamming with many talented contemporary artists. He disappeared for a while to focus on his family but returns with a vengeance on Convertible. He band is a quartet with additional percussion on three selections. They bring an old-school contemporary jazz vibe with Steve Hunt on the Rhodes, some wah-wah from Durant and cool beats from percussionist Ricardo Rhodes and drummer Tom Brechtlein. Kingsley steps up on “Vivi’s Bounce” with Durant switching to the B3. “Funky Princess” is another winner featuring guest guitarist Eric Johnson along with the Latin-tinged “Marlowe’s Mood”.
