O’s Notes: Marcus (tenor sax) has skinnied down his big band to a 5-piece combo with Sylvain Carton (alto sax), Mike Abraham (g), George Ban -Weiss (d) and Romas Fujiwara (d). As the title suggests they take us from fusion to the brink of free jazz. Along the way we enjoyed the title track, a fleeting complex tune; the playful bounce of “Jimmy’s Delight”; and the cool burn of “Tron McCain”, one of the few tunes written anticipating McCain as president. The journey from start to finish was more than we anticipated, quite creative and enjoyable.
