O’s Notes: This is a dedication to a fabulous woman, Victoria L. Smith. She was a Black nurse, a Red Cross and a Peace Corp worker, truly a woman dedicated to service. It is a collection of spoken word and music compiled by Cecilia (vibes), her niece. This is the story of color bias among African Americans, the struggles and challenges they face depicted through the life of one woman. The music comes from a string ensemble, the Boys Choir of Harlem and a contemporary R&B rhythm section. The music is well chosen to parallel the contrasts and chaotic moments in her life. It is educational, provocative and enriching history as well as good music.
