O’s Notes: Composer and pianist Yelena Eckemoff has been producing some rather intriguing music over the past decade with a wide assortment of talented musicians. Paul McCandles (reeds, fl), Arild Andersen (b) and Peter Erskine (d, perc) join her for her latest release“Desert. It is a rather melancholic set of compositions reflecting life in the desert. Each song is accompanied by extensive stories that provide great depth into the music. The stories, music and art are all by Eckemoff and it’s a fine work from the desperation of “Bedouins” to the hope of “Garden of Eden”.
