O’s Notes: Vocalist Tierney Sutton and her band have 15 years and 7 CDs under their belt! Trey Henry (b), Christian Jacob (p), Kevin Axt (b) and Ray Brinker (d) form a solid musical canvas for Sutton to perform on. This program includes a couple of tunes from Porter’s songbook along with nine other popular and jazz standards. Sutton makes these tunes her own creations by changing meters, flow and dynamics. Trey and Kevin add prominent bass lines while Jacobs and Brinker fill in the space without going overboard. Tierney is deliberate, heartfelt and introspective. She reinvents the music but never loses the original mood. Among the best transformations are “It’s All Right With Me”, “Cry Me A River”, “Love Me Or Leave Me” and “Whatever Lola Wants”. This is a daring approach that Sutton and her band pull off flawlessly making Desire, desirable!
