O’s Notes: The trio is Richard Sadler (b), Evan Jenkins (d) with leader Cowley on piano. Neil wrote all of the tunes, a blend of syncopated cool jazz and fusion. We liked the racy pace of “How Do We Catch Up”, the driving groove on “Pair of Teeth” and the way they mix it up on “She Eats Flies”. They take it down a notch on “That’s My Space” and “Pinball Number Count” showing their versatility. We listened several times so that we could absorb these fresh tracks and are encouraged to see new music surfacing in jazz. It is a very good set.
