O’s Notes: Bassist, composer, arranger John Lang leads a star-studded ensemble including Gary Smulyan (b-sax), Pete McCann (g), and guest artist Kevin Winard (perc). John took advantage of time away from the clubs during the pandemic to polish up some unfinished compositions and tailor them to his current band. The results are this vibrant contemporary jazz-fusion set, Earotica. We liked the brass on “Blues For Faddis” featuring Bruce Harris (t) and McCann, and the swinging “The St. Virus Dance”, both representations of the twelve selections.
