O’s Notes: Carrie had a deep voice that packs a lot of soul and emotion. Her signature is immediately recognizable and definitive. Fine & Mellow is collection of two themes, the first dedicated to Billie Holiday tunes and the second featuring tunes written by Hoagy Carmichael. She is backed by the Loonis McGlohin (p) Trio with bassist Terry Lassiter and Jim Lackey on drums. The songs are short and sweet, all typically around 3 minutes, a sign of the times. The original recording was released in 1983 and again in 1994. Carrie died from cancer in May 2012 but this serves as a fine memory.
