O’s Notes: Drummer Roy Haynes provides airtight beats infused with fiery accents on the upbeat set. Marcus Strickland adds splendid free form solos as on Monk’s “Twinkle Twinkle” and young pianist Martin Bejerano displays tremendous technique with his fingers dancing across the keyboard on “Summer Night”. John Sullivan handles the lower register (bass). The band also shows poise on “Ask Me Now” but the cookers are what make this CD stellar. This set sounds good and feels good all the way through!
