O’s Notes: The opener “Midnight Sun” sets the mood for the set. The groove is cool jazz complete with organ by Joey DeFrancesco, guitar from Anthony Wilson and warm sax from Pete Christlieb. Dave Carpenter (b) and Jeff Hamilton (d) round out the band. One master vibraphonist, Terry Gibbs, is paying respect to the Father of the Vibes, Lionell Hampton. The selections are perfect, “Blues for Hamp”, “Evil Gal Blues”, “Star Dust” and many more. This is well done on both performance and sound (SACD). It’s a treasure.
