O’s Notes: Kate is singing about the ins and outs of romance on Girl Talk. She employs a strong team that includes a standout performance from guitarist Keith Ganz who shares arranging responsibilities with Kate. Reuben Rogers (b), Gary Versace (p, organ) and Clarence Penn (d, perc) are the rest of the rhythm section. Kurt Elling makes a guest appearance sharing the mic with McGarry on “O Cantador”. Kate is inspired by the legendary female jazz singers and combines her folksy style with her soul, staying inside the lines but delivering a stirring set. We think it is her best yet.
