O’s Notes: Javon takes a trip on the contemporary side of the Jazz Rulerª with Have You Heard, a funky endeavor that retains a high degree of sophistication. Mark Whitfield (g) and Dr. Lonnie Smith (organ) are in the house to take the journey along with Jackson. The album features a combination of new acid jazz tracks, jazzy arrangements of R&B classics like “Dance Floor”, and funky arrangements of jazz classics like “Summertime”. They keep you guessing but always rocking. Lisa Fischer adds vocals on “Breakin’ Up Somebody’s Home” to round out a cool set.
