O’s Notes: Dial up a funky rhythm section with bassist Andre Berry and drummer Chris Coleman, then plug in leader Chris Standring on the keys and warm, liquid guitar to arrive at Simple Things, a plea to enjoy the gift of life. Chris is especially attentive to this point following a surprising heart attack just prior to the initial recording! He’s back and in top form paying homage to old school funk on “Thank You Bootsy”, and “Ain’t Nothing But A Thing”. They also relax on ballads and mid-tempo chillers like “Too Close For Comfort” and “The Gist of You”. We also dug “And The Show Goes On” featuring Gary Meek (t-sax).
