O’s Notes: Jeff opens up with “Up Above”, an introduction to his tenor sax. Tatsu Aoki comes in on bass followed by Jimmy Ellis with a harmonizing exchange on alto sax that sets the stage for the funky, mellow, horny jam session that follows. Chan switches to bass clarinet on “Licorice Stick” with Francis Wong accompanying him on flute. Lewis Jordan (alto sax) makes a guest appearance on “Waiting”. The rich layering of textures is the highlight over most of the seven mostly original selections. Jeff is true to the title!
