O’s Notes: Drummer, composer and band leader Matt Wilson is working in a quartet for his latest release, Hug! Jeff Lederer (b), Kirk Knuffke (cornet) and Chris Lightcap (b) round out the band. As we come to the end of 2020, we could all use a hug and Wilson’s work here gets us close with eleven emotional tunes. We enjoyed the upbeat ”Joie De Vivae”, “King of The Road”, Hambe Kahle” and the title track. There are different emotions in each of the songs, enough to redirect our attention to a better state of mind.
