O’s Notes: We really like this grouping with Chris Brubeck (b, tb), Dan Brubeck (d), Taylor Eigsti (keyboards) and Mike DeMicco (g). They are listed as the Brubeck Brothers Quartet but all four of these musicians have talent and it surfaces during the session. “Bullwinkle’s Revenge”, a funky tune, is one of the showcase tunes as they go around the horn with solos. They also play some neobop. We were impressed by DeMicco’s work on guitar, particularly on “West Of One”, a bop tune. Eigsti leads on the ballad “Still As Winter” followed by Chris with very nice work on bass. It’s neobop/fusion on “Open Door” which includes a strong solo from Dan. There is a lot to like on the well-balanced session!
