O’s Notes: Composer and multi-instrumentalist Bill Banfield puts together a fine collection of mellow instrumental and vocal ballads. The program is divided into three rooms, each have unique characteristics and all are appreciable. Jazz Urbane (JU) Instrumental (a mellow set), JU Song with “Unmistakably You” featuring Yanina Jackson (vocals), and JU Swing/HipHop, our favorite door. There’s a taste of cool rap on “Questin’” followed by the hip hop laced “Quiet Storm Questin’” both with Donald Harrison’s warm sax. We also enjoyed the tribute to George Duke on “Money Funny”. Banfield draws on past and present urban vibes and infuses his jazzy signature on each to arrive at nirvana!
