O’s Notes: The title, JiHi, a Japanese word for compassion is an accurate description of the feelings generated in these eight new compositions. The quartet, led by pianist Hall, pushes the pace while retaining the passion behind the notes. Adam Kolker plays with a jovial energy on sax and bass clarinet that compliments Doug nicely. They maintain a carefree mood even as the pace slows making this a harmonious session.
